It is always exciting to shoot in a new town, especially in a town full of historical background; a new couple, this couple is the descendants of the peranakan in malacca; and a new experience, a truly ‘Peranakan’ (also known as baba-nyonya) custom of wedding. This time around, we are shooting in all 3 new factors and to be honest, it is our first truly peranakan wedding experience and we had no clue of how we ought to go about shooting the entire procession.
They had their relatives and friends to help them out with the wedding customs, and it is a wonder that Peranakan wedding has not lost its awe until today. The traditional peranakan wedding has rituals from day 1 till day 12, but this time our couple had decided to do them all in a day, for the convenience of everyone. It is amazed that they have such rich culture and tradition. And for all we know, we thought hokkien is their mother tongue, but it turned out that it is a mixture of hokkien and malay, as they speak fluent malay! Not kidding here, ‘coz they even know quite a lot of malay pantun which we have not even heard before.
Cedric, is the man who made the entire event a good one as he knows every little detail of it. If it was not for him, the event would not be possible. It was a great experience and we were served the best baba-nyonya kuih in town, which we can’t get in kl. At the end of the day, it was really tiring but it was well worth the experience.
